It's not all about the parks

Woke up Thursday morning, and were greeted by Andrea. Tropical storm Andrea, that is. So our plans are nothing if not flexible, and we abandoned any idea of any outdoor activities and headed for the undercover Florida Mall! Well, shopping was always on the agenda! Got a few odds and ends, but mainly it was mooching and people watching. By mid afternoon the promised all day rain was starting to break, so we took the scenic route home, and checked out International Drive. Think Blackpool on steroids! It's also home to Universal Studios, where we'll be heading next week.
After dinner, and since the rain was still off, we decided to risk Hollywood Studios. It was worth it! With Magic Kingdom still to do, I think I would say it's my favourite park so far! Some of the attractions, such as the Studio Backlot tour, were closed due to the earlier weather, but I loved the Movie ride, and as for Midway Mania, well we used Chris's guest assistance card to cut a 90 min queue down to 10 mins! Fab ride, and would happily go again! We gave Fantasmic a miss due to queues but with a bit better planning, we'll go later in the trip.
Today, well that was bookmarked as a lazy day, due to plans for the evening - more about that, later - so we caught up with some shopping, and I got to grips with a top loader washing machine. Easy to use, but just pause for a moment and enjoy the mental image of little ole me trying to reach the bottom to empty it.
Stopped laughing yet? Chris hasn't.
After lunch, we took a trip to Celebration, Florida. Imagine every cliche of American suburbia and that's Celebration. Very nice, pleasant place to pass a few hours, we plan to go back and try the cafe and the ice cream shop another day.
Tonight? Well, we booked to go to Capone's dinner show - all you can eat Italian buffet, and a prohibition gangster themed show. We had a ball! Food was great, show was fab, and the service was excellent. If you're over here and looking for something to pass an evening, I would definitely recommend it. Got some fab souvenirs, too! ;)
So, tomorrow is our first weekend here, no plans yet, just playing it by ear.

One week to go!

I can't believe it's 9 months since we booked, the time has flown, but this time next week, we'll be getting ready to board our flight to Orlando. We're as packed as we can be, just need the daily last minute odds and ends that we'll be using during the week. As ever, we're heading to Manchester on Sunday and staying over in preparation for an early start.  I love getting through security early so we can relax with breakfast, duty free and people watching before we fly. Disney and Universal tickets are booked, as is the Baseball - we're finally trying the Major Leagues, with a trip to see the Tampa Bay Rays v the Boston Red Sox.  And we just need to book for Capone's dinner show. Can't wait!

Scooters, baseball and doctors

So, Sunday, lazy day. Chris hired a scooter for the rest of the trip, which makes life so much easier. We mooched about and explored the area, and spent the evening at Downtown Disney, which is a great place to hang out and chill. Monday, was Universal, and to be honest, we both preferred Disney. Not that there's anything wrong with Universal, but Disney just feels better. We're going back later in the week to do Islands of Adventure. On the way home, we stopped back at DTD, since the weather was better, and the hot air balloon was running. Fab views, and I can tick that off the bucket list! The evening was spent at one of the outlet malls - think Freeport on steroids! Tuesday was Tampa, where we went to the Dali museum, and the Tampa Bay Rays v Boston Red Sox match. Home team won, yay! When it's too wet for Ducks!

Woke up this morning to the best weather since we arrived so, armed with sunscreen and hats, we headed for The Big One - The Magic Kingdom. Wow! That's all I can say for first impressions! When we parked up, we decided to get the ferry across to the park, rather than the monorail, and I was treated to our first peek at Cinderella's castle! After EPCOT, Chris decided to get a chair from the outset, and went for one of the electric scooters, which he decided was well worth the money. After wandering along Main Street USA, and chatting to the Mayor, we realised we were just in time for the Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It Street Party.  Ever seen a crab and a candelabra boogieing on down? Come to Disney! Totally unexpected, and a great start to the day! Next stop, Adventureland, and the Jungle Cruise, with a tour guide who had a fab line in puns! Then, onto Aladdin's Flying Carpets, followed by the Pirates of the Carribean ride. Out through the mandatory gift shop, and on
